Two weekends ago had Papa in a rented backhoe digging a very big hole. Naturally, it rained for two days after digging. Mr. B and Miss Chief had a blast sliding in the mud and the dogs brought in enough of it to fill a vacuum bag.
I received the Permit from our Regional Building Department and posted it prominently. The hardest part was figuring out how to keep it clean, legible and visible from the street. (I got two out of three.)
Many, many piles of dirt
Proximity to House
Footing Forms
With the permit secured, we were able to have the foundation workers over for a concrete party.
I know, I know…I was all talk about permeable solutions. Many of them were cost prohibitive and others simply weren’t available in our area. Unfortunately, concrete was the only possibility.
Rebar "Pins" secure the patio to our foundation. This helps to keep the patio from moving or sinking.
Pouring for the Patio
Raking the Concrete
The Largest Patio I've Ever Seen
Moving on to the Footers
Leveling and Smoothing for the Greenhouse Foundation
Onward! Our next step is to get the concrete block (CMU:8″X8″16″) to the site. I don’t know if we’ll be trailer-ing it up here or having it delivered. Then, we Papa gets to start stacking the block to build the foundation walls. After a few layers, the block is filled with concrete and a row of Mirafi Geotex is laid down. A few more block layers and more concrete. There will also be rebar every 4′ to correspond with our roofing truss locations.
