The weather has been asserting its influence over our daily habits. We still spend a lot of time outside but it is time to swap out the summer clothes for the winter-y ones. As I was going through the kids’ closets, I realized they don’t have much in the way of long sleeves and pants that fit. I started looking over a few of my favorite websites for ideas and then headed to Target’s website. Nothing. I was quite disappointed, actually. There really wasn’t anything in either of the children’s sizes that we could have shipped in. (We can’t go out shopping due to some health issues.)
Solution? Make them. I’ve got little bits of fabric from other projects that would be enough for a few pairs of pants for Miss Chief. Mr. B might have to wait for me to send Papa out for denim and twill. I have quite a few Burda magazines from years past but couldn’t resist the temptation of looking a little at pattern sites. Here are the ones I’m planning on making:
- Easy Kids Pants from Handy Home Projects
- Peasant Blouse from blueprints
- Kimono from Habitual
- NewLook 6506
- Burda 9628
- Burda 9861

First up is NewLook 6506. We’ve got extra denim from other projects that will give quite the 70′s look. White denim with LARGE polka dots. Here is Miss Chief modeling the new pants with our cat Nova. You can’t see the ribbon trim – it’s a pink stripe across the front of her waist. These pants were super-duper easy to throw together. Total time = ~1 hour. They would have taken a little less time if I didn’t cut the elastic too long. Changes: I really need to get the feed dogs on my serger fixed. With denim, every little bit of weight you can remove in the seams counts.
I believe I’ve got fleece hidden around here somewhere but I’ll have to do some digging before starting on the coat in Burda 9628. The Burda 9861 sizes are too large but I’m going to try to scale them down. I just love the open part on the sleeves. (Maybe I should scale them up for me!)
